Author Low progesterone - help
mel210275 posted on 26 October 2005, 23:40

Hi Wendy, I feel really good and trying to stay positive. My levels as of tues are: prog has gone from 35 to 50 and hcg has gone from 180ish to nearly 500. The clinic said it was good but they still would like the hcg to be a little higher. I am going for an ultrasound this tues so I guess that will confirm everything. I am just trying to stay positive but not get my hopes too high but I was thinking if I did have an ectopic preg, shouldnt I be in all sorts of pain by now??? Something is happening inside but I am not too sure what as yet. My boobs have started to grow so dont know if that is a good sign that levels might be going up a bit????

How are you going and feeling?

xx Mel

Hi Mel,

Oh that's just tremendous news! Hang on in there!

With an ectopic pregnancy,I would also have thought you'd be in pain by now. What I simply cannot understand,is why they are dragging their feet in scanning you! A quick and simple vaginal scan will show where the pregnancy is located....maybe they're waiting until next week as they hope to be able to see a heartbeat then too.I am concerned however,it's because your hospital does not have an Early Pregnancy Unit and one of the new (less than 5 years old) transvaginal scanners (TVS).

The symptoms of an ectopic pregnnacy are -

One-sided pain in your tummy:
This can be persistent and severe, but may not be on the same side as an ectopic pregnancy.

Shoulder-tip pain:
This may be due to internal bleeding irritating the diaphragm when you breathe in and out.

Bladder or Bowel Problems:
If you feel pain when you have your bowels open or when you pass water and think you may be pregnant you should mention this when you go for a check-up.

Collapse:
You may be feeling light-headed or faint, and often this is accompanied by a feeling of something being very wrong. Other signs such as paleness, increasing pulse rate, sickness, diarrhoea and falling blood pressure may also be present.

These symptoms can occur between 3 and 12 weeks and may or may not be accompanied by slight bleeding.

I am really sorry you're going through this Mel - I wish I could wave a magic wand and fast forward your pregnancy into the second trimester.Just try and get as much rest with your feet up as possible, get through this weekend (I hope you're not at work?) and focus on Tuesday.Imagine your baby right where he should be with a little heart beating away.

Good luck and let me know what happens on Tuesday - I'm sending positive thoughts to the three of you!

Me again Mel!

I've just read someone else's post on pCOS and saw a reply from you!

We have quite a bit in common - I too have PCOS.I was diagnosed 4 years ago after developing all the horrible symptoms, and was prescribed metformin with the slimming drug Xenical by a very forward thinking Gp! The theory is that the PCOS was the cause of my two miscarriages.

To fight it once and for all, I resigned from my job in May this year (it was a very stressful career) and dramatically changed my lifestyle.I swam 5 days a week, joined Weight Watchers and cooked all organic food from scratch! I lost two and a half stone and as you know fell pregnant in August after two cycles of treatment.I'm still overweight, having gone up from a very active size 14/16 to a size 28 in four years.I managed to get down to a size 20/22.I'm trying not to put on more than the recommended weight gain and then intend to breastfeed....hopefully a nice side effect of that will be faster weightloss! My plan is to try and get down to a size 16 before trying again for a second baby as soon as possible. Our consultant thinks that women over 30 with PCOS who want more than one baby, should start trying as soon as they can after the first one is born. We'll see how things go!

Hi Wendy, wow we do have so much in common hey. Do you mind me asking how old you are? I am 30. PCOS is controlable. I went from a size 12 to 16 but am now down to a 14 so getting there. It can certainly play havoc with your femininity with all the symptoms but I feel I am slowly getting it under control.

I havent had a very good day today, read my post on the 2ww under anyone out there... I dont feel confident in the pregnancy continuing but I am hanging in there, I guess with a glimmer even though slight of hope... I guess hope keeps us going hey.

The weird thing is that I havent had any abnormal pain or other side effects.... the whole thing is bizarre.

How are you travelling????

Thanks so much for your support.

Oh Mel, I'm so so sorry.

Deep down,I did think this was likely - but it doesn't make it any easier at all.I'm so upset for you.You know it happened to me twice, and leading up to the second one was alot like what you have just gone through. We were still devastated and shocked when it actually happened though.I wish I could wave a magic wand and sort everything out for you Mel.

It's very brave and strong of you to look at the positive side.I pray you get the result you want soon - and in time for Christmas too.I'm 34 (I'll be 35 by the time the baby is born in May) so you've certainly got plenty of time on me! You'll get there Mel.In the meantime,if there's anything at all I can help you with (now or when you start another cycle) let me know. However,I will understand if I don't see you around for a while.

All my love & hugs,
Wendy x

Thanks for your kind words Wendy and I aint going anywhere, I love talking to every one on this site no matter what stage they are up to.
Seriously I am coping really well, of course I am disappointed but I am trying to focus on the positives and I still love hearing about everyone who is pregnant and listening to what they are going through.
I know what you mean about deep down I knew something was wrong but you always hold on to the smallest hope that somethign will change.
The whole thing feels like it happened so long ago and that it was a bad dream.
I am certainly trying to stay positive for my next round of treatment.

Hope you are feeling well.

x Mel
