After four miscarriages we have recently been given the news that my eggs are no longer suitable to produce a viable pregnancy. It has been suggested that our only chance to become parents is to use a donated egg. We are therefore looking for a donor. We live in the South East and are using a Colchester and Cambridge based clinic. I am medium build, 5' 4" tall and have brown hair and blue eyes.
Is there anyone out there who may be willing to help us out?
If you are willing to travel abroad for treatment you should not have much of a wait for a donor especially in places like South Africa and America. You could always advertise for a donor on national gamete trust site
Are you going to use the Herts & Essex Fertility Center, we are looking into Egg Share programme they are offering. I have no idea how long the waiting list is though (I also have brown hair and blue eyes)! After two years of trying for a second baby with my husband (my third in total) we went to the dr who told us my tube was blocked (I lost a tube to ectopic pregnancy) and that I was not ovulating properly and he would put me on clomid but as my tubes were blocked there was no point. I was devastated at the news, but when we looked into IVF and discovered Egg Share I found some comfort in the fact that I may be able to help a woman who deserves to be a mum....I hope that I may be able to help someone soon!
Do I understand it that you are willing to donate / share your eggs that you will also use with IVF at a clinic?
It all sounds very interesting and worth looking into. The clinic I am using is called The Bourne Clinic and is based in Colchester but we would be willing to travel. This clinic offers a free IVF cycle to anyone, such as yourself, who is kind enough to donate eggs. Maybe your clinic offers the same? They also have a system which offers me the chance to get a donated egg earlier if I introduce a donor to the clinic - the current wait is eighteen months to two years so they tell me!
One big question I have is would you want to meet us / know about the child etc? as at the moment we am not sure how we feel about this side of donated eggs.
Due to the long wait for donor eggs in the UK we are also looking into the posibility of an overseas donor in a bid to explore all avenues.
It would be good to chat to you further about this if it is still a route that interests you.
Hi Mamasafari,
We were looking into the cost of IVF at Herts&Essex fertility Center when we discovered the Egg Share Scheme - they offer free IVF to anyone willing to share half of their collected eggs to a woman who was no longer able to produce eggs/viable eggs. I thought this was a brilliant idea so we persued with the clinic and I am currently undergoing tests to determine the quantity and quality of my eggs. If all is well then we can go ahead. As I understand it they have good success rates and I am not sure of their waiting list but have heard it is about 7-8 months (but don't quote me on this!)
The clinic does not offer meetings with the recipient parents, it is completely anonymous, but do make it clear that the child can search for me in the future should they decide to, and they do encourage you to write a letter to the child if they do decide to search for you. Therefore, I have not thought about meeting either recipients or resulting child, but if you would like that to happen then I would be ok with it if you thought it would be beneficial to yourselves or to your child (I will always take the view that he/she would be the recipients child), and I guess it would be nice to be going through the IVF cycle together! I will always be eternally grateful to the people who make it possible for me to have the child I so long for, and sharing my eggs is a very small price to pay!
I am hoping for the test results within the next couple of weeks (hopefully sooner as my Dr explained to me that they have to do the tests quite quickly to get an accurate reading - I am having my FSH and oestrodiol levels checked which has to be done on day 2 or 3 of your cycle), and if they are within acceptable levels then we will get the green light...here's hoping!
Hope you don't mind me joining you.Dont often come on the site at present but sa your thread and decided to stop and post.
mamasafri - I have also been told that we can only have donor egg treatment due to my poor response to two previous attempts. We have never made it as far as transfer due to poor egg quality.I am very sorry to hear about your miscarriages and cant begin to imagine how difficult that has been for you and your DH. We live in the South East and have registered with Herts and Essex. They do have a sort waiting list of between 3-9mths depending on your requirements with some people being matach in less than 10 weeks I believe..They seem to get a good number of donors and have a great sucess rate.We also contacted Bourne Hall but they had a much longer waiting list.Hope this is helpful and good luck.
Torialw - I just wanted to say what a great thing you are doing by offering to donate your eggs, I am also at Herts and Essex on their waiting list for a donor. They are a great clinic with a fantastic sucess rate. Do you mind me asking a bit about you such as your height, age, weight etc. I am also looking for a donor with blue eyes and it seems less common. We dont want to go abroad for treatment as we would like any child gifted to us from a donor to be able to find out their genetic heritage in the future should they want to. Most other countires don't offer this option.Good luck and I hope Herts and Essex accept you.
Hi Socks - I have a consultation in a couple of weeks to see if they will accept me as my hormone levels were ok, I am just hoping that there will be nothing else standing in my way now!
I am 5"3' brown hair, blue eyes and I am not sure about my weight but I think it is in the region of 11 stone which is a little overweight buty bmi is still under 38 which is the clinics cut off point. I am originally from Wales but moved to Essex as I married an Essex boy! I am hoping that all will go well the clinic tell me that if all goes well I can start the process 3 weeks after (so 5 weeks in total), so here's hoping! I am hoping to egg share, so if all goes well some eggs should be available to you soon, so I am hoping and praying to be able to give somebody the chance for their own family soon! Best of luck to you socks, and I hope I can help you soon!
Just thought I would drop by to let you know how my consultation went.... the dr says that he doesn't forsee any problems and I willing to allow me to continue with the egg share! Just waiting for my blood test for AMH levels to come back and to have the mandatory counselling and we are all systems go! Socks if you are still interested in my eggs you could be in reciept of them in about 2 months if all goes well and as drs plan!
