Author Anyone about to start IVF May/June?
SmartieGal posted on 17 May 2010, 13:44

Hello, I'm new to this site, but just about to start a new bout of IVF. I've already had 2 tries, and the second resulted in my lovely son who is now 3 yrs. We'd love to give him a brother or sister.....

I'm 38 yrs old, unexplained infertility although apparently recent tests show my FSH levels are quite high (around 12-15).

Anyone else about to start a second (or first) attempt around about this time? Would be lovely to have a chat with someone!

Hi

We too are starting our second attempt at IVF/ICSI in June/July. We have a son who is 28 months from our first ICSI in 2008 so like you we are extremeley blessed. It was quite a hard decision to decide on a second go but feel that as I am now 40 its now or never. A sibling for our son would be so lovely but we know it will come at a price. Financially and emotionally. I am really apprehensive and all the emotions of the previous ICSi are already flooding back. I have just turned 40 and my AMH result was 5.3, deemed really low but understandable for my age. I think this will be our last go unless we are in a position to freeze any eggs (will cross that bridge when we come to it).Have you had the AMH test? and when do you start?

Hi Lisa,

This may sound really daft but I dont know what my AMH levels are! I dont think I have had that test but I do know that my FSH levels are high, around 12, probably partly due to my age and my previously unhealthy lifestyle.

I started on the stimms yesterday, am on a higher dose throughout due to my lazy ovaries! Have been put on the shorter antagonistic protocol..

Yes, it is a hard decision to make isnt it? Its understandable to feel apprehensive in the circumstances, I certainly am! It sounds as if you have thought it through very carefully and have made the right choice to try again. Do you have a start date yet?

Wishing you all the best, keep me posted !

Hi Smartiegal

Hope you are still on here and the news is good. whearabouts are you??

Well I started the initial stage just over a week ago and first apt to check ovaries and have stims consultation on 27th July. Apparantly I am being put on a double dose of stims due to my age and EC is booked for 9th August. it all seems a little quicker than it did a couple of years ago and my consultant advises me that they now take it to blastocyst stage before ET.

HI Lisa and Smartiegirl
Mind if I join you?
We have just started again... We are doing a short protocol, and i have been stimming for 4 days already. It is really weird being back on the band-wagon!

We are very lucky to have a little boy, born from 3rd ivf cycle. he is 2.5 now, and he is (like I'm sure yours are to you) just the biggest joy in our lives.

We have already done 2 cycles this year (BFN) so this is our third trying for no 2.

Anyway, i just wanted to say hi, introduce myself and say good luck to you! Where about are you in your cycles?

Love

Hope you don't mind me joining you ladies. I've also just started short protocol today. I too have high fsh and low amh so on max 8 vials per day. This is our second attempt. First one we didn't even get any eggs but feeling more positive on the short protocol. Do any of you ladies know approx how long short protocol takes? I forgot to ask this question today at the clinic.

HI Katie
Good luck with your cycle! I really prefer the short cycle...
I started my FSH injections on Sunday 18th of July, and I do my last jab tonight, 27th July. Egg collection scheduled for Thursday 29th.

How are you doing? Hope everything is going well?

Chat soon, and good luck

Lou

Hello Ladies!

How's everyone doing? I hadn't realised that anyone had posted on this thread so haven't been responding - sorry!

Lisa, how did your stims consultation go? Are you reacting well to the higher dose?

Louise, I hope your EC went well today? How did you get on with your injections? Agree the short protocol is much "easier"!! I think as it goes so quickly you dont have much time to start getting too stressed about it !!

Katie, I think the short protocol takes around 14 days from starting until egg collection, then I belive it varies between diffrent hospitals/clinics as to when the eggs are popped back in. Don't worry too much about not producing a whole mass of eggs - it really only does take one special little determined egg to make a baby....;-D On this attempt I only produced 4 eggs (on the highest dose of stims - oh the shame!) - 2 fertilised and were put back in.

Well, I completed my treatment back in June and got a BFP - am now 9 weeks pregnant. Still trying (unsuccessfully!!) not to get too excited about it as I know that there is still a lot can go wrong - but judging by my constant nausea and exhaustion am guessing my little bean is doing okay so far, fingers crossed! My tummy seems to have popped out really early this time so lots of people have guessed already so its harder to keep secret.

Wishing everyone lots of luck and baby dust. Will keep checking on here to see how everyone is getting on.

OMG Smartiegirl!! That's amazing!! Wow, I can't imagine how you restrain yourself from getting all excited! I know I would want to shout from the roof-tops, but alas, we all know how hard it is not to! Have you had any scans?

So far so good for us... We had 12 eggs collected on Thursday. 8 were mature. Turns out DH's sperm has taken a dive since his last test, so we decided to do ICSI. Luckily all 8 fertilized, and on day 3 we had 6 8-cell embies, and 2* 6-cells. So fingers crossed at least one makes it to day 5, and if we are really lucky we may even have 1 or 2 for the freezer... Fingers crossed. We have never gotten to a day 5 transfer before, our last cycle we had 4 good embies on day 3, but none on day 5.

I've been feeling pretty bloated and a bit sore from collection, but no sign of dreaded OHSS, which i got on my first cycle.

How are you doing Katie? You must be getting close to egg collection now? Thinking of you, and good luck!!

Good luck to you all!
Lou
