Author FET May 2nd... testing May 14... anyone else?
CazKat posted on 3 May 2012, 10:10

HI there

just wondering if there's anyone else out there who is going to be testing around the same time as me?

We're in Cyprus currently after having had FET the other day - used the same batch of embryos (Donor eggs) that created our now-15-month-old little man :) Had 2 eggs implanted, one a 10-cell and the other a 7, will find out in a day or so if they've managed to re-freeze any of the other 4 we still have from the last go :)

Anyway - hello :)

Caz :)

Hi Marie

Donor eggs aren't for everyone but after 5 failed cycles used my own eggs (1 short-lived pg) DE seemed the only option... We went to Cyprus because the donor remains anonymous, and that was a big thing for us... we got a shortlist of potential candidates based on my height, colouring, blood group etc that also included their education level, nationality and profession so we could make our choice. Unfortunately our first choice didn't cycle at the right time so we had to go with our second choice but she was still a pretty good match :)

From the point of view of the treatment, it was very simple for me, and much less stressful than going through all the stimms etc when you're going to use your OE... they just had to make sure my body was ready to receive the eggs at the right time. The only downside was having to sort out our own travel and accommodation- although even that wasn't difficult! The clinic organised the airport transfers, we did the rest....

Don't know what else you'd like to know, but feel free to ask :)

Good luck with this cycle, hopefully you won't need to use DE anyway ;)

Hi Caz

Thanks for your reply.

Did you tell friends and family you used donor eggs? Or just the close ones? Does you little one look like your hub? When you had your scans and when he was born do you think it felt the same for you as a woman with own eggs?

Really personal questions so no need to reply if u don't want. I'm sure when you were looking into it you wandered too?

In the beginning, we only told our immediate family that we were using donor eggs - mainly cos we really didn't think anyone else needed to know! Loads of people know he was the result of IVF but only a few know about the DE, although we've told a few more of our friends now and no-one has been 'shocked' iyswim. He is my baby - I grew him, and I never really think about the fact that he's not from my own eggs. When I was pregnant and when he was born, I can't say if it felt different to how my 'own' eggs would have felt cos I've never been pg before! What I do know is that he's my son, no-one else's.. apart from his dad's, of course, lol..... and he's the dead spit of his dad! I've had some people say he looks like me too... I know that's not really possible but I do wonder about the whole nurture vs nature thing!
So, all in all, I wouldn't worry about them not being your own eggs, cos like I said, 'you' are the one who grow the eggs into a baby, no-one else :)
That's our take on it, anyway :)

Thankyou for your honest reply. Like you say you grew him in your tummy and fed him, so you made him! He's all yours and hubs. Do you think that anonymous donor adds to that? Ie no one else will ever be involved in the future? I'm on donor list in my home town which means my child could go to school with a sibling and not know... bit weird... maybe I'll look into going abroad...

If this one doesn't work... and its not looking good... then we may try a natural cycle before the donor route.

You have made me feel much better about donor idea by replying so thanks for that. You brought me some comfort in a pretty rubbish day!

The last 2 weeks have rained everyday and ive been off work all the time. I hope the sun shines on your 2ww and it all goes well.

Marie x x

Ps I've been here 5 times before too. Had an 18 week mc and a 7w mc. X

Hi Caz...

Just for closure... my bleeding got heavier and I tested negative today. So this lil rollercoaster journey has come to a sad end for me. I wish you all the best ladies. Might try natural cycle next time... so anyone with any info please share.
