Author Poor Response

Well thought I would let you know had first scan yesterday and basically I am not responding as well as I should be. I have three decent sized follies and another slightly lagging behind @ 10mm but there is a possibility that this won't develop big enough so doc said it's looking likely that I have three to play with, have to go back in on Friday to check the progress of them from here on in and keep taking the injections. I am gutted have hardly slept at all and have been in tears since yesterday, i really thought that seen as my level came down to 7.7 I would have a good / fair response doc says very uncommon for a 29 year old and normally the response they would see from someone who is say 40 and i was prob born with less eggs than the average baby girl and now i have not that many left, just don't know what to do with myself feel like i have lost the will to live, when will i get to smile again, just feel like every single thing is an obstcle and somone up there is pushing me to see how much of this I can take. my choices are either
Give it a shot with 3 follies (if they have developed more by Friday of course, could be worse then who knows) cancel this cycle and start again by they have said likely i would get the same response next time and of course would need to wait for my fsh to drop again, or if the doc allows have IUI instead, just don't know what to do hubby thinks we should give it a go with 3 if they all develop as this could be our only shot, just so depressing I mean what % of follies is there per egg and what % fertilisle? Gonna call the hospital today and ask some more questions although don't want to feel like i'm getting on there nerves just feel so down about this whole thing again
Is there anyone else out there that has had ivf with 3 folloes?
LOL and hope to hear from you
Sarah

Hi Sarah

One of the girls in my local support group was classed as a poor responder and kept having her cycle abandoned due to only getting 3 follies. On her third attempt she insisted the hospital went ahead to ER - they got 3 eggs and she is now pregnant. So don't give up. At 29, the egg quality should not be poor due to age so I would go ahead if they get to the right size - you have nothing to lose.

All the best

Hi there,

Hope you don't mind me dropping in for a moment. Am just reminding members in general to please not leave contact details, solicit or leave ads on ivfworld.com. If you're unsure please read the guidance rules again which can be linked to from the front page of message boards.

Thanks and hope you're both successful.

Hi Sarah

I am so gutted for you - it is a hard decision but if you have 3 viable eggs and all 3 fertilise you could have triplets! You only need one to make a baby so hang in there and see waht your next scan shows up - another couple could have devloped by then - i am rooting for you xxx

Hi Sarah

Sorry to hear that you have only 4 follies for your ET, but all you have to remember is that you have more than one and with one thats all it takes,
I am like you i dont respond very well eithe( 2 failed cycles due to poor response) try not to torture yourself wait and see what happens on friday with the progress then you might have more of an idea what to do. I know its a really hard but sometimes you must follow your instincts and do what YOU feel is best.

Wish you lots of Luck

Thanks Ladies
I've been told that it's likely that we only have 3 follies to play with and the 4th one is only at 10mm so it might not catch up with the other 3, so if the 3 that we have have been growing then we have to make a decision if we should give it a shot with 3 bearing in mind that there might not be an egg in any of them, hubby thinks we should give it a go with 3 but we need to bear in mind that we have a lower chance than most just don't know what to do, guess will see what the doc says as Friday and make a decision from there
Kerry can i ask when you say failed attempts do you mean that you had ec but none of them fertilised, or did they fertilise but not implant? I'm just trying to figure out what I can expect?
Thanks and good luck to all
Sarah

Hi Sarah

My first cycle of ivf was abandoned due to poor response ( i think i only had 2 follicles) the second time i only had 3 follicles one egg fertilised but then it never reaches the splitting stage so i never made ET.
When i went for my follow up appointment with my consultant he told me that ivf would not work for me as i have low good quality eggs and that i was probably starting to go through the menopause, he said the way forward for us was to use an egg donor.

Well i wasnt expecting that so the tears just started flowing and we just felt numb and devastated,
we went for councelling after that (march 05) i still could not accept what he had told us, then in June i fell pregnant naturally but i lost the baby at 12 weeks so it was a very tramatic time.
it just felt like it was our only chance.

So to us what we had been told could not of have been the case, so it just goes to show that it can happen dispite the oddsthat are against you.

Good Luck for tomorrow

Hi Kerry
Sorry to hear about your tramatic time that is awful hun esp with the m/c mother nature is twisted I am sure, but hopefully you will get there again, esp as you did it naturally on your own too. Are you still on the journey at the moment, trying anymore treatment etc? if you don't mind me asking how old are you? I have been told pretty much the same thing well doc told me that i am premenopausal and like you have been devestated, been back in today for a scan and looks like I have 4 follicles though the 4th is a little smaller than the other 3 but im trying to be hopeful, i know this is far from perfect and a very long way to go yet. How many eggs did they recover from the 3 follicles that you had? hope you don't mind me asking all this questions hun but i have no one else to ask? I'm so scared about the ivf but i have to try and at least give it a shot else i will never know and always be asking myself what if
Anyway thanks in advance and looking forward to receiving your reply

Hi Sarah

I had three follicles the same as you, 2 had eggs in them but only 1 made it through fertilization, i dont think they told me what grade they was ( i never asked either as i wasnt very clued up onit at the time) although now i have learnt alot more from using this site. I am on clomid at the moment for 6 months as i am on a waitng list, this next cycle will be funded from the nhs. as i am 36 and i fit all the criteria so im very lucky as it is very expensive.
Im actually getting a lot better treatment this time, we went to meet our consultant a few weeks ago and we eas with him over an hour and he went through everything with us , as when we went private they didnt explain things to us at all. I can honestly say that the clinic i used for my previous cycle was awful( wessex Fertility (Southampton) and they were in to make money big time. This clinic(Salisbury) we are under now is in the top 20 ratings on this site so im very happy to be attending this new one.
I think you are doing the right thing, i was in exactly the same position so i know how you feel, but try to think positive that you have 3 follicles and its definitly worth a shot.

when is your next scan?

Hi Kerry
Thanks for your message, hospital tell me I have 4 follicles the 4th one has caught up but is still a little behind the other three but has caught up and should be big enough come the time of ec on Tuesday and obviously they hope to retreieve an egg from it, i'm hoping for at least two eggies but i have to be realistic and know that there is a chance that there could be no eggs then what do i do? I don't have to go back anymore now until EC on Tuesday and I am so scared, all I keep thinking is say that they don't get any eggs out of the 4 that I have and say none of them fertilise? But I guess I just have to give this a shot else I will never know and this could be my only shot. I'm glad that your happier at your new clinic, i had clomid for 6 months prior to trying ivf but unfortunately for me it wasn't succesful, but you never know you could get pg while you are waiting for your next attempt?. I am at Holy House hospital in Essex and they are nicer than my last clinic but to be honest all the consultants that I come across don't seem to have good people skills. I'm so scared of the EC and none of them fertisling and of course if I get as far as ET then of course a negative result, do you have any advise on how to get through this? i'm petrified that I'm not strong enough to get through all of this but what choice do i have? I'm 29 and cos of my fsh problems and poor response to drugs have been told that if it all goes against me i may need a donor egg, i just can't believe that at my age that could be possible but guess it must be, if things don't pan out for me this time then i guess i would need to review my options i mean how do you make a decisoin like that between an egg donor and adoption? I truly hope that at least 1 of my eggs will be good enough to put back but guess it's all just a waiting game, and just don't know how we proceed forward from this
