Hello.

Just want to share this information:

New research also shows that men who have a folic acid deficiency could notice a 90% reduction in their sperm count. If men suffering with partial infertility take folic acid it is proclaimed to increase the quality and quantity of their sperm.

Foods that are high in folate include: -

Bovril™.
Fruits particularly kiwi fruit and papaya.
Vegetables such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, spinach, cabbage, asparagus and parsnips.
Cooked kidney and liver (pregnant women should avoid liver

Be careful not to overcook vegetables as this can destroy the folate, you should also try to eat vegetables raw or steamed.

Foods that contain good sources of folate include:

Oranges (including orange juice)
Tinned baked beans
Lettuce, peas and cauliflower
Marmite™
Egg yolks
Milk
Wholemeal and white bread (usually fortified with folic acid).
Large jacket potato

Dear Anie,

Thanks for all the info on the foods with folate in them, I will make sure my husband eats plenty of them over the next 8 weeks! We are getting ready to embark on ICSI due to my dh's poor sperm morphology. We're doing it at Hammermsith Hospital through the NHS (1 cycle and then on to private if need be) and are starting the drugs in September, and then doing the ICSI in September. As you can imagine, the nerves are starting to set in! On the one hand I feel like it's ages away and I feel a bit disconnected to it all, and then on the other hand I know that my subconscious is getting worried as I wake up in the night and think of nothing else. I know that the next 8 weeks is going to flash by and I want to be as prepared as I can.
How are you getting on with your treatment? Have you done anything in particular to try and prepare your body and mind for IVF? I am eating healthily and doing moderate exercise, plus taking folic acid and so on. I'm cutting down on caffeine (1 cup of tea a day!) and not drinking too much alcohol - but should one give it up altogether or is moderate wine allowed?
I'd love to hear how you are getting on!
Best wishes and good luck,
Hattie

Hi Hattie.

How are you doing?
I'm Anie,31 and my dh is 33.This is our 1st try for ICSI.DH sperm is very slow, that's why we have to do ICSI.

My treatment is going fine.Im trying to drink water as much as i can.I should drink 2 ltr a day! Im also taking folic acid tablets.I only drink wine on ocasions but now i have cut it down.I drink cafe latte: more milk and less coffe so i think that should be alright. My husband is also taking folic acid tablets, twice a week, prescribed by his GP.Unfortunatly he doesn't eat brocoli or spinach! :(

I started my treatment on 1st July with down reg.On 17th i've got another apintment to check-up and if everything is ok then i will start with stimms.MY ec is for 30th July or first week of August.

I'm quite relaxed with all this now that i have started but before i was very tensed when i didn't know what to do.It was a big rollercoaster!I was lucky that i didn't have to wait long for my first appointment because there was a cancelation.Otherwise my first app.would be only in August!

Don't worry you will be fine.Try not to think about this all the time.Try to relax.

Any other information you need, we are all here to help you.

Take care.
Luv, Anie :)
